Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Intake Coordinator to join our team at UHS. As a key member of our admissions team, you will be responsible for supervising the triage process, ensuring that all callers are offered assessments or referrals appropriate to their acuity, and handling transfers according to EMTALA and facility guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to all inquiry calls, providing expert documentation, communication, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Advocate for internal and external customers, including clients, families, physicians, medical facilities, and managed care organizations.
  • Communicate with Admissions Coordinators, Physician Assistants, Nursing Supervisors, Administrators, and Physicians as needed to maintain safety at all times.
  • Act as a clinical expert and knowledge resource for Admissions Coordinators.
  • Coordinate the implementation of psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services when indicated, completing the admission process to the level of care ordered by the Physician.
  • Ensure that medical screens, assessments, and admissions are completed, and liaise with physicians, psychiatrists, other facilities, and managed care organizations to promote optimal use of the continuum of care for each individual assessment.
  • Provide a detailed report to the next shift of patients still in process and report regularly to the Director of Care Management/Admissions on matters of departmental and personnel administration.
  • Ensure EMTALA laws are followed with the Admissions process, completing the EMTALA log.
  • Complete transfer requests and coordinate care with referral sources.
  • Supervise a team of clinicians and direct care staff to ensure the admissions process is flowing smoothly, coordinating with Nursing Supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Master's Degree in a mental health field or be a graduate of an accredited nursing school. You will also require a Texas license as an L.P.C, R.N. or LMSW/LCSW, and at least 3 years of mental health experience, with 2 years of prior supervisory experience preferred. You will need to be able to calmly handle crisis situations with patients and be able to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally. Regularly, you will need to bend and stoop, and you will be required to work irregular hours and weekend hours.
