Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Office Manager to join our team at Hillsboro Area Hospital Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the overall function of patient billing, cashier, and credit and collections of patient accounts.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare and/or accounting, with a minimum of five years of experience in patient billing, preferably in a hospital setting. They will be able to work under pressure with tight time constraints, possess excellent human relations and organizational skills, and have supervisory experience.

The Business Office Manager will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the overall function of patient billing, cashier, and credit and collections of patient accounts. They will oversee a wide variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure the efficient operation of these departments and the integration of department services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting, role modeling, and promoting an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital and in accordance with the Service Excellence Standards of Behavior
  • Demonstrating highly ethical conduct and moral behavior in personal and professional action and communication, consistent with the goals and objectives of Hillsboro Area Hospital
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
  • Focusing on quality standards
  • Creating and participating in department and hospital performance improvement
  • Following guidelines of safety (incident reporting) and staff health/infection control (illness reporting)
  • Being knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures and assisting with their review and updates
  • Ensuring that the hospital Compliance Plan and all governmental rules and regulations are followed
  • Scheduling and attending monthly meetings with Director of Revenue Cycle and/or CFO to review Monthly Meeting agenda
  • Updating LEM goals annually and inputting monthly results as required
  • Maintaining appropriate internal controls over accounts receivable and cash receipts functions
  • Overseeing information management (IM) function, including leadership of IM committee
  • Serving as the facility's Privacy Officer, ensuring that all HIPAA regulations are followed
  • Assisting in the development of HIPAA policies

Responsibilities

The Business Office Manager will be responsible for:

  • Directing, delegating, initiating, coordinating, organizing, setting priorities, and evaluating personnel work assignments
  • Participating on committees and special projects
  • Clearly identifying and responding to internal and external customer needs and requests
  • Working to exceed customer satisfaction
  • Monitoring Patient Satisfaction Survey results and implementing plans to meet patient-satisfaction goals
  • Generating confidence and sense of value in customer interaction
  • Creating, implementing, and evaluating goals and objectives, policies, and standards for department, as well as staff development
  • Applying the principles of time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and delegation
  • Developing good relationships with executive management, department managers, supervisors, and staff
  • Preparing necessary reports for third-party payers, including Comp Data reporting, etc.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A graduate degree from an accredited school with a B.S with emphasis in healthcare and/or Accounting, or related field preferred
  • Five years of experience in Patient Billing is required, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints
  • Better than average human relations and organizational skills
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Physical Demands

The Business Office Manager will be required to:

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable sitting, standing, and walking
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel
  • Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

The Business Office Manager will work in a well-lit, climate-controlled, office setting. They may be exposed to communicable diseases, hypodermic/IV needles, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Corporate Compliance

The Business Office Manager will receive training and/or attend necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health's Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. They will understand the responsibilities related to compliance and know how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
