POSITION OVERVIEW: The Campus Safety Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a secure environment for all members of the campus community. The primary objective is to deter criminal activity and uphold public order. Key responsibilities include safeguarding students, faculty, staff, visitors, and property from potential hazards such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. The officer will also enforce applicable laws and institutional policies, particularly those related to traffic and parking. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, with a particular emphasis on weekend and holiday availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Uphold and promote the mission of The Lake Erie College Of Osteopathic Medicine;
  • Serve as a professional representative to faculty, staff, and visitors, maintaining a courteous demeanor;
  • Ensure confidentiality and present a professional appearance at all times;
  • Conduct patrols of the campus on foot or by vehicle, responding to calls for assistance to ensure safety;
  • Enforce laws and institutional regulations, including traffic rules and safety protocols;
  • Investigate incidents that occur during shifts, documenting findings and taking appropriate action as needed;
  • Prepare detailed reports of any irregularities or violations, maintaining a daily activity log;
  • Collaborate with law enforcement personnel as necessary;
  • Monitor activities of students, employees, and visitors to ensure compliance with campus policies;
  • Enforce institutional policies regarding smoking, food and beverage, and substance use;
  • Manage parking regulations and issue citations as required;
  • Document non-criminal incidents and report safety hazards;
  • Submit incident reports and daily activity logs to the Director of Security;
  • Process lost and found items;
  • Utilize CCTV systems for surveillance and monitor access control systems;
  • Respond to alarm systems and ensure proper action is taken;
  • Oversee snow removal operations during winter months;
  • Assist with cadaver deliveries when necessary;
  • Provide escorts for students and employees during nighttime hours;
  • Handle incoming business calls outside of regular hours;
  • Perform various administrative and investigative tasks as assigned; and
  • Accept additional responsibilities as needed to ensure a safe campus environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid driver's license with appropriate insurance is necessary. Strong computer skills are preferred. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Previous experience in security or law enforcement is advantageous.
