Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Culinary Arts Educator to join our team at Mobile County Public School System. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching culinary arts and hospitality courses to high school students, as well as developing and implementing curriculum to meet the needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement curriculum for culinary arts and hospitality courses
  • Teach culinary arts and hospitality courses to high school students
  • Recruit and sponsor students for the Culinary Arts and Hospitality program
  • Work with school administration and community leaders to establish and maintain a successful program
  • Participate in program and facility planning, equipment selection and procurement, and the establishment of a school-based laboratory for the Culinary Arts and Hospitality pathway
  • Prepare students for the "Access ACF Blue Ribbon Certification Program"
  • Establish objectives and plans learning experiences
  • Implement activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives
  • Provide instruction that is realistic in terms of current and future job specifications
  • Develop career-related instructional materials
  • Work with guidance personnel in the recruitment of students
  • Assist students to make informed decisions regarding their occupational goals
  • Provide related instruction with laboratory, or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the career objectives of the student
  • Exhibit positive human relations skills and maintain an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping and student behavior
  • Maintain and submit records and reports, prepare annual budgets, order instructional supplies and equipment according to district procedures and maintain inventory records as required
Qualifications
  • Must have an appropriate Alabama teaching certification in Family and Consumer Science, OR
  • Must have a Current License and/or Certification in Culinary Arts from the food service industry American Culinary Federation, etc.
  • Three (3) years of verified work experience as a chef, dietitian, baker, or kitchen manager
  • MUST HAVE seven (7) years of full-time work experience (within the last ten years) in the field of Culinary Arts; OR Regionally accredited postsecondary certificate/diploma program in culinary plus five (5) years of full-time work experience immediately prior to hiring; OR Regionally accredited postsecondary Associate's degree program in culinary plus three (3) years of full-time work experience within the last seven years prior to employment
  • Must have passed or pass within the first year of employment the NOTII Proficiency Exam for Culinary Arts (Commercial Foods 5167) and the Alabama Educator Certification Testing Program (AECTP) which includes the basic skills assessment of Workplace Documents, Business Writing, and Applied Math. If the applicant has a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university the basic skills assessment is not required. Expense of exams are borne by the applicant/teacher
