Position Overview

Lightmatter is at the forefront of developing chips that facilitate extreme-scale artificial intelligence computing clusters. We are seeking a Senior Package Assembly Engineer who is a collaborative innovator with a strong background in engineering or science. This role involves tackling complex technical challenges and contributing to groundbreaking advancements in optical computing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of cutting-edge packaging technologies that redefine AI architecture performance and efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary package assembly integrator, ensuring seamless collaboration with design teams, silicon and photonics foundries, and OSAT partners.
  • Design and implement assembly process technologies, while establishing assembly and test design rules for Heterogeneous Integrated co-packaged optics technologies.
  • Oversee the development of test chip strategies and manage the design process, ensuring effective planning and execution of experiments with partners.
  • Work closely with package and system architects to integrate manufacturability considerations into product specifications.
  • Deliver advanced package designs that meet stringent assembly and reliability standards, aimed at high-end computing and data center applications.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in wafer-scale packaging assembly process development.
  • In-depth knowledge of chip-on-wafer process flows, materials, and equipment requirements.
  • Experience in designing test chips and assembly test vehicles.
  • Familiarity with photonics packaging requirements, including fiber attachment.
  • Expertise in 2D/3D packaging technologies and an understanding of the thermo-mechanical challenges associated with these technologies.

The base salary range for this role is between $205,000 and $258,000, determined by factors such as location, experience, educational background, and market data.
