About the RoleWe are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in mechanical design to lead the development of custom hardware modules for our Aurora Driver Kit (ADK). The ideal candidate will have experience in bringing high-volume electromechanical products to market, ideally in the automotive or consumer electronics industries.
Responsibilities- Design and develop custom hardware modules for the ADK, including compute modules, sensor pods, and lidar.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
- Develop and maintain design documentation, including CAD models, 2D drawings, and technical specifications.
- Work with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles are applied.
- Conduct design reviews and provide input on design changes to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering and 4+ years of industry experience in mechanical design.
- Proficient in CAD design, with Catia preferred but not required.
- Proficient in 2D drawing creation using GD&T.
- Experience designing for harsh environments, including shock/vibration and temperature cycling with long-term durability.
- Electro-mechanical exposure to connector selection, harness specification, and EMI/EMC shielding requirements.
- Experience designing active thermal solutions for electro-mechanical devices.
- Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of pre-production fleet issues and resolution.
- Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions.
- Willingness to travel within the US 3-4 times a year and internationally 2-3 times a year.
- Experience with high power, high thermal density, and high speed electronics.
- Experience designing for mechanical control outlines (MCO) of printed circuit board assemblies.
- Experience with designing to Automotive standards, like ISO 16750 and similar.
- Experience going through an automotive PPAP process.
- Background in electronics module packaging for integrated assemblies.
- Exposure or participation in a DFMEA exercise.
Aurora offers a competitive salary range of $156,000.00-$234,000.00 per year, as well as an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits. We also offer a dynamic and inclusive work environment, with opportunities for professional growth and development.
