We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, including blood banking, coagulation, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Follow established laboratory and hospital policies and procedures related to testing, specimen collection, quality control, result verification, reporting, and infection control.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate.
- Calibrate equipment as required and ensure that all laboratory equipment is in good working order.
- Document and report test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
- Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens and follow established guidelines for resolving patient specimen problems.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
- Work effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Act as a resource for test-related issues for technicians, phlebotomists, secretaries, and other medical staff, as appropriate.
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
- Certification as an MLT by the ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
- 2 years of related laboratory experience preferred.
- Ability to multitask, handle stress appropriately, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
