Direct Care Professional

Indian Rivers Mental Health Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Care Staff to join our team. As a Direct Care Staff, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our consumers with mental illness and developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide transportation for consumers as needed for appointments, errands, and outings.
- Complete MAC training requirements within 3 months of start date and maintain MAC certification.
- Work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
- Document BLS groups and all clinical notes in accordance with agency policies and within 24 hours.
- Bathe, feed, dress, and ambulate clients to ensure proper grooming.
- Conduct food inventory twice weekly and as assigned by supervisor.
- Dispose of expired food.
- Conduct supplies inventory.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, wipe down surfaces, general cleaning of facility, and all other janitorial duties assigned.
- Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
- Pick-up client prescriptions from pharmacy.
- Accompany clients to appointments.
- Ensure all receipts and monies are returned to supervisor immediately after outing(s).
- Cook and provide meals according to diet and posted menu.
- Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
- Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with consumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
- One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
- Current Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Works in residential facilities; may require long hours. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, consumers, and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone, and fax machine. Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control consumers. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
