Job Title: Communications Associate

Job Summary:

The Communications Associate will play a key role in developing and implementing communications strategies to enhance the Yale School of Music's reputation and communicate its messages effectively. This position will be responsible for creating and managing communications materials, including social media content, blog posts, and press releases.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage communications strategies to enhance the Yale School of Music's reputation and communicate its messages effectively.
  • Create and manage social media content, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Write and edit blog posts, press releases, and other communications materials.
  • Manage and maintain the School of Music's social media platforms, including posting and engagement.
  • Conduct market research and analyze data to inform communications strategies.
  • Work with the Director of Communications to develop and implement communications plans.
  • Manage ad placement on social media and in local publications.
  • Manage user-generated social media content.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in science writing, social media, digital journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills with special emphasis on developing communication strategy, advanced writing ability, and editorial accuracy.
  • Demonstrated strategic writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications for a range of media and working with creative professionals in design, photography, video, and web design and management.
  • Ability to independently lead a team of creatives, set priorities, and deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in communications, including knowledge of design principles, social media platforms, and strong writing skills.
  • Photography and agency experience is desired but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in classical music is a plus.
