Job Summary

Med-Metrix is seeking a highly skilled Senior Patient Access Bed Control Representative to join our team. As a key member of our patient access team, you will be responsible for registering inpatient and outpatient surgery patients, as well as taking and completing Direct Admit postings from Kaiser, Physician offices, and other Hospital facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Registration and Admission: Register and admit incoming patients (elective, emergency, surgical outpatients) ensuring completeness and thoroughness, including signed Conditions of Admission forms, copy of insurance cards, claim forms printed/obtained from patient, and patient is properly situated. Provide copy of admitting patient registrations to residents.
  • Bed Assignment: Assign beds for all incoming elective and emergency patients in accordance with stated preference whenever possible. Proper accommodation codes are inserted to resolve private versus semi-private problem; and ensures patients and physicians are content. Also responsible for assignment of beds for patients transferred from ICU and from one floor to another.
  • Charge Plate and Bed Board Management: Make certain charge plates are properly noted and bed board is changed.
  • Supportive Tasks: Performs miscellaneous tasks such as providing residents with copies of admission documents reflecting room assignments, supplying patient information to physician offices, and orders supplies in a timely fashion.
  • Release of Patients: Obtains release of patients who have expired. Ensures that no patients are picked up by funeral home unless proper releases are obtained.
  • Physician Postings and OR Schedule: Accepts physician postings and completes OR schedule noting patient's name and home/work telephone numbers, and insurance information. Prepares startup of pre-admit form.
  • Confidentiality and HIPAA Compliance: Use, protect and disclose patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 1 Year Hospital Admitting preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Microsoft Office.
  • Soft Skills: Willing to work beyond normal working hours when requested to do so. Exemplary customer service skills, including the ability to negotiate and problem-solve. Proven clear, effective written and oral communication skills. Strong Attention to detail. Ability to work within deadlines with frequent interruptions.
Working Conditions
  • Work Schedule: Ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. extend arms; kneel; talk and hear. Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, sometimes for long distances. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Frequent communications, verbal and written, and auditory acuity. Perform light lifting (up to 15 pounds).
  • Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
  • Work Environment: Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office setting. Subject to frequent interruptions. Minimal occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, or musculoskeletal injuries. May encounter patients, family members, co-workers, and visitors under all conditions, e.g. hostile and/or emotionally upset. Operate Office machines properly and in accordance with Hospital safety standards. Ability to work in accordance with Hospital Safety Standards.
