Job Summary

The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs complex CT procedures, utilizing professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history.
  • Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members.
  • Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Reviews patient prescriptions to verify appropriateness of exams and communicates with Radiologists and Referring Physicians as needed.
  • Responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with CT protocols.
  • Verifies insurance authorized exam scripts and sends exam modification forms to Finance for re-verification.
  • Obtains outside studies (CDs) and schedules them in EPIC to ensure availability in PACS for comparison by Radiologists.
  • Provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians and/or family members.
  • Evaluates radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers.
  • Determines whether patients have been appropriately prepared for procedures.
  • Preps patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices.
  • Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
  • Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients.
  • Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding procedures.
  • Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Monitors patients' physical conditions for adverse reactions during procedures.
  • Responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, and overtime as needed to provide quality patient care.
  • Adheres to Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality policies.
  • Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body.
  • Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
  • Thorough knowledge of PACS systems.
  • Maintains CEU credits.
  • Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within 12 months following hire date.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 3 months of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months CT experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.
