Position Overview
The Insurance Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for collecting payments for designated segments of the insurance accounts receivable and executing insurance follow-up tasks in compliance with established federal and state regulations. This role also involves appealing claim denials when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct follow-ups with insurance providers to ensure claims are processed and paid.
- Manage accounts based on priority, independently billing with a comprehensive understanding of relevant insurance and CMS regulations.
- Timely resubmit insurance claims that have not received responses or are unfiled, adhering to each insurer's filing deadlines.
- Review and appeal unpaid or denied claims, ensuring accurate coding for proper billing.
- Update demographic information as needed to facilitate clean claims.
- Research and prepare insurance credits for refund approvals.
- Maintain an error rate in line with departmental standards.
- Perform additional assigned tasks as required.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing.
- Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
- Strong understanding of CMS guidelines, insurance regulations, and coding practices.
- Proficient in computer skills.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized.
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- Excellent mathematical abilities.
- Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members, clinic staff, payers, and patients.
- Professional customer service skills.
- Demonstrates self-discipline and a strong work ethic.
