Position Overview:
The Investment Solutions division is tasked with the development, recommendation, and execution of investment strategies driven by liabilities. This includes portfolio construction and adjustments aimed at facilitating the acquisition of new reinsurance business.

These strategies and their corresponding portfolios must align with business objectives, ensuring adequate returns on capital and consistent investment income, while also considering RGA's risk appetite, execution challenges, and asset-liability alignment.

Key Responsibilities:
The Portfolio Manager (II) serves as the primary leader for asset strategies and the associated risks that underpin new reinsurance opportunities.

  • Formulate transaction-specific asset and hedging strategies that maximize excess yield relative to capital, adhering to regulatory, accounting, operational, and risk management parameters.
  • Establish asset and credit pricing assumptions for various transaction types, including Asset Intensive, Structured Reinsurance, and upfront cash settled transactions involving credit risk.
  • Design a target portfolio strategy for specific opportunities to achieve superior risk-adjusted returns in collaboration with Portfolio Management.
  • Collaborate with the Credit team to identify optimal execution paths, analyzing the client's existing portfolio and crafting a target portfolio based on the defined strategy.
  • Articulate the target portfolio strategy to relevant stakeholders within RGA, including executive leadership, and secure approval for the proposed strategy.
  • Negotiate investment guidelines and treaty terms with clients to ensure the necessary flexibility for managing asset risk and achieving target returns.
  • Oversee the closure of the asset side of transactions, including the operational processes involved in integrating the client portfolio.
  • Direct the necessary repositioning from the client's portfolio strategy to RGA's target strategy.
  • Propose and evaluate new tools and frameworks to enhance the pricing process for new business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external contacts and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Guide analysts in supporting transaction efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
Required:
- MBA with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Economics/Finance with 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
- CFA designation or significant progress towards it.
- Proficiency in technology, programming, and process improvement/automation skills.
- 5+ years of corporate credit experience.
- 5+ years of experience in alternative investments.
- 5+ years of fixed income management experience within an insurance client context.

Skills and Abilities:
Required:
- Exceptional investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong Bloomberg skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey and share knowledge effectively.
- Advanced negotiation skills for internal and external discussions.
- Strong customer relationship management and change management capabilities.
- In-depth understanding of investment and market concepts, particularly fixed income analytics (e.g., sector weightings, portfolio duration, performance attribution, convexity, and interest rate term structure).
- Comprehensive knowledge of asset-liability management.
- Ability to set goals and manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects concurrently.
- Strong team collaboration skills and participation in departmental projects.

Preferred:
- Expert understanding of investment and market concepts, especially in the insurance asset management domain.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing investment strategies, particularly in insurance or reinsurance contexts.
