Job Summary

The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Inspector to join our team at the San Francisco Public Works department. As a Senior Construction Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring that construction projects are completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee construction inspection work performed in conjunction with Public Works construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications, applicable codes, and safety regulations.
  • Assign and supervise the work of construction inspectors in the inspection of construction projects.
  • Anticipate workloads and develop staffing plans; train and evaluate performance of staff.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation and controls, including daily reports, force accounts, materials testing, and other construction records.
  • Participate in and/or conduct planning, preconstruction, coordination, progress, scheduling, and field staff meetings.
  • Review plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews, and contract closeout records.
  • Resolve disputes and difficult problems and respond to complaints from the public that require resolution at the senior level.
  • Ensure that a quality assurance/quality control program for each project is developed and enforced.
  • Supervise construction inspectors in the verification and preparation of quantity and progress estimates for progress payments and change order work.
  • Report safety and traffic hazards, defective work, and debris to the contractor for correction and ensure that the contractor corrects deficiencies.
  • Initiate, prepare, estimate, review, and negotiate change orders.
Requirements
  • Two (2) years of verifiable full-time experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco class 6318 Construction Inspector; OR
  • Six (6) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work ensuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in construction management for a governmental agency on building or park projects such as fire stations, police stations, health centers, recreation centers, libraries, parks, building renovations, elevators, emergency generators, office renovations.
  • OSHA-30 Certification.
