Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced engineer with structural engineering focus and commercial diving certification to perform both structural design and inspections.

The successful candidate will join our Walnut Creek or Oakland, CA office and work collaboratively with a team of experienced professional engineer-divers.

The principal function of this position is to evaluate marine structures and ports through above and underwater engineering inspections, report preparation, load-rating analyses, remaining service life analyses, and development of structural repair, rehabilitation, or replacement designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform site investigations of marine structures, bridges, and other infrastructure assets
  • Ensure that the scope of work is fulfilled as directed and that the contracted deliverable is submitted on schedule and as budgeted
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines
  • Analyze deficient components of marine structures to assess load capacity
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation
  • Assist with civil and structural design
  • Perform other duties as required
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred and required within 6 months of commencing employment
  • Certified Commercial Diver - ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, or ADAS required
  • NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus
  • Entry to 4 years of related diving and inspection experience; design experience strongly preferred
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
  • Boater Safety Card preferred
  • Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within a couple months of hire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred
  • Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-off/pre-employment drug screening
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST

Working Conditions

The incumbent works in both the office and field:

  • Office work requires ongoing design work requiring focus
  • Field work requires diving in waters and exposure to extreme elements
  • Must be able to move among a variety of simultaneous priorities
  • Some extended days, evenings, and weekend work requirements
Physical Requirements

This role requires the incumbent to be in excellent physical condition:

  • ADCI (or equivalent) diving requires specific physical conditioning and strength
  • Field work requires incumbent to carry diving and inspection equipment over unpaved, rural, and unmarked terrain
  • The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, climb, and navigate in a small boat
