Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer Diver to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland, CA office. The successful candidate will work with a team of experienced professional engineer-divers providing consulting services to clients throughout California. Occasional travel to other areas throughout the U.S. and abroad will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in site investigations of waterfront infrastructure, including marine structures, marinas, ports, container terminals, and water control structures.
  • Assist the team in fulfilling scopes of work and submitting contracted deliverables on schedule and within budget.
  • Work collaboratively with inspection teams, design teams, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Analyze aged or damaged components of marine structures to assess load capacity.
  • Perform inspections using commercial diving methods and techniques while adhering to field operation standards and safety procedures.
  • Assist in writing technical reports and manuals as needed.
  • Understand and maintain proficiency with State, Federal, and local agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in proposals and cost estimates.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Professional Engineer licensure required. License in California desired within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Diver - ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, or ADAS.
  • 5 to 10 years of related experience.
  • Dive Supervisor certification preferred.
  • NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus.
  • Proven experience in performing above/below water engineering inspections.
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Boater Safety Card preferred.
  • Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within a couple months of hire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred.
  • Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-off/pre-employment drug screening.
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works in both the office and field:

  • Office work requires ongoing design work requiring focus.
  • Field work requires diving in waters and exposure to extreme elements.
  • Must be able to move among a variety of simultaneous priorities.
  • Some extended days, evenings, and weekend work requirements.
Physical Requirements

This role requires the incumbent to be in excellent physical condition:

  • ADCI (or equivalent) diving requires specific physical conditioning and strength.
  • Field work requires the incumbent to carry diving and inspection equipment over unpaved, rural, and unmarked terrain.
  • The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, climb, and navigate in a small boat.
