The Performance Engineer plays a crucial role within our Performance Analytics division, focusing on enhancing and modeling the energy efficiency of our solar power plant operations. This involves developing and automating performance reporting, conducting in-depth performance evaluations, and leveraging industry research alongside photovoltaic (PV) system design principles to refine our models. A comprehensive understanding of both photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems (BESS) is essential, along with proficiency in Python programming, PVLib, PVsyst, SQL databases, Grafana, and Python orchestration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ Python programming expertise to create tools and scripts aimed at analyzing the performance metrics of photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems.
  • Execute performance evaluations of solar PV systems and BESS utilizing PVLib and PVsyst software.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather and assess data from solar and battery energy storage installations.
  • Implement effective data management strategies using SQL databases, including ClickHouse OLAP DB and MS SQL Server, for optimal storage and retrieval of performance data.
  • Design and maintain dashboards and visualizations through Grafana to oversee and report on the performance of PV and BESS systems.
  • Collaborate with the data science team to support Python orchestration frameworks for the automation of data collection, analysis, and reporting tasks.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of performance challenges and propose corrective measures to enhance the efficiency of PV and BESS systems.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in PV and BESS technologies and contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders regarding PV and BESS performance issues.
  • Document methodologies, procedures, and findings related to the performance analysis of PV and BESS systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly with photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience in the operation, design, and analysis of AC and DC electric power systems.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with a focus on developing analytical tools and scripts.
  • Strong grasp of photovoltaic system modeling and simulation, ideally with experience in PVLib and PVsyst.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL database management and analysis.
  • Familiarity with Python orchestration frameworks for automating data processing workflows.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of conducting thorough performance analyses of PV and BESS systems.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A proactive approach to learning and keeping abreast of industry trends and innovations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Practical experience with ClickHouse OLAP or MS SQL Server for data management and analysis.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining dashboards and visualizations using Grafana or similar platforms.
  • Certification in photovoltaic system design or performance evaluation.
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages and software tools commonly utilized in the renewable energy sector.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and their integration with PV and BESS technologies.

Work Environment:

  • This position primarily operates in an office setting, with some responsibilities at outdoor solar plant sites.
  • Must be capable of sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods during the workday.
