Who You Are

You are an inventive, meticulous, and proactive technical expert. You excel in dynamic environments and possess a deep understanding of process safety and risk management. In this position, you will establish benchmarks for Process Safety and assist project teams in implementing essential process adjustments and engineering safeguards to ensure safe scaling. This role presents a distinctive opportunity to develop and execute a comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) program from inception.

As part of a diverse team united by a common vision, you will engage in foundational work, innovate new materials, design and validate processes for pilot-scale development and commercial production, and continuously enhance our manufacturing capabilities. You will collaborate closely with a core group of Process, Equipment, Manufacturing, and Environmental Health and Safety professionals on intricate, multi-phase, and multi-year initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Guide engineers, project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders in evaluating process safety requirements.
  • Facilitate process hazard analysis (PHA) safety activities, including quantitative risk assessment (QRA), HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA workshops.
  • Review interdisciplinary engineering documentation and existing equipment to ensure compliance with internal standards, industry benchmarks, and best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and uphold standards, specifications, and guidelines pertaining to Process Safety.
  • Assess the physical impacts and associated consequences for specific process safety scenarios.
  • Conduct process safety risk evaluations for emerging challenges and formulate mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee internal incident and near-miss investigations, establish corrective actions, and monitor the completion of these actions with site personnel.
  • Influence cross-organizational stakeholders and, when necessary, drive technical solutions without direct authority.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant technical process safety experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with applicable industry standards, including API, NFPA, ASME, CGA, and CCPS, and the ability to apply these in developing internal standards and guidelines.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program requirements.
  • Experience in implementing protective strategies and identifying options for risk reduction.
  • Ability to effectively influence a new organization that is learning process safety management at scale.
  • Willingness to collaborate with a team and the capability to independently address challenges.
  • Ability to constructively challenge peers, elevate their performance, and engage in self-reflection.
  • Proven track record of consistently questioning established practices and addressing inefficiencies.
  • Experience with dust explosion hazard analysis is preferred.
  • Proficiency in process simulation is advantageous.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Utilize personal protective equipment, including lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Be prepared to traverse long distances and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment in a designated workspace.

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $151,000 to $177,503. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including education, experience, and skill set. Base salary is just one component of our competitive Total Rewards package, which may include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The salary range is subject to change and may be adjusted in the future.
