Job Title: Per Diem Registrar-Emergency Department

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Per Diem Registrar-Emergency Department to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. As a Per Diem Registrar-Emergency Department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our Emergency Department team.

Responsibilities:
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer telephones promptly and courteously, directing calls to appropriate personnel and/or departments, taking messages and assuring delivery of same.
  • Collect and distribute patient referral information received from affiliated physicians.
  • Escort visitors and patients to appropriate areas, providing information to assist patients and/or visitors.
  • Be open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experiences of other people, promoting an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
  • Distribute departmental reading material, such as the Emergency Department brochure, Health Care Proxy, and Patient Bill of Rights, ensuring such documents are readily available.
  • Register patients by updating or entering patient demographic, financial information, and emergency contact data into the computer system.
  • Verify demographic information and insurance coverage by interviewing patient/family member/friend.
  • Generate patients' charts and attach pertinent information, such as Emerg Card, Medicaid threshold, and EMS sheet, according to policy and established procedure.
  • Review discharged patient charts for diagnosis, physician signature, dictation code, menu, and appropriate forms for completion, according to established policy and procedure.
  • Process specimens for laboratory(ies) by ensuring that specimens are appropriately labeled, forms are completed, and identification processes have been followed.
  • File charts and retrieve old records.
  • Retrieve completed charts, addressograph plate, and all supporting documents from patient treatment areas.
  • Enter data into required computerized systems.
  • Maintain patient recall files.
  • Ensure all papers, forms, etc. are stamped appropriately, according to policy and established procedures.
  • Log patients on/in to the appropriate registration sheets/logs, reconciling log books.
  • Obtain signatures for consent.
  • Make clinic appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school level of knowledge (graduate or equivalent) to prepare reports, keep records, and deal effectively with people.
  • 6-9 months of healthcare experience in order to become familiar with institutional policies and procedures, preferred.
