The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Per Diem Emergency Department Registrar to join our team. This individual will be responsible for the business aspect of patient visits to the Emergency Department, as well as providing patient-focused care delivery within the department.

About the Job

As a Per Diem Emergency Department Registrar, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive efficient and effective care. Your primary responsibilities will include registration, insurance verification and notification, updating financial and demographic information, reception, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff in a welcoming and respectful manner.
  • Answer telephones promptly and courteously, directing calls to appropriate personnel or departments as needed.
  • Collect and distribute patient referral information received from affiliated physicians.
  • Escort visitors and patients to appropriate areas, providing information to assist with their needs.
  • Maintain a sensitive and inclusive environment, recognizing and respecting the diverse backgrounds and experiences of others.
  • Distribute departmental reading materials, such as the Emergency Department brochure, Health Care Proxy, and Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Register patients by updating or entering demographic and financial information into the computer system.
  • Verify demographic information and insurance coverage through interviews with patients, family members, or friends.
  • Generate patients' charts and attach relevant documents, such as the Emerg Card, Medicaid threshold, and EMS sheet, according to policy and procedure.
  • Review discharged patient charts for diagnosis, physician signature, dictation code, menu, and completed forms, adhering to established procedures.
  • Process specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring accurate labeling, completion of forms, and adherence to identification processes.
  • File charts and retrieve old records, maintaining a secure and organized environment.
  • Enter data into required computerized systems, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintain patient recall files and reconcile log books, tracking patient interactions and activities.
  • Obtain signatures for consent, making clinic appointments as necessary.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require a high school level of knowledge (graduate or equivalent) to prepare reports, keep records, and effectively interact with people.

A minimum of 6-9 months of healthcare experience is preferred, allowing you to become familiar with institutional policies and procedures.
