Avionics Systems Engineer

At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of space technology to make humanity a multi-planetary species. As an Avionics Systems Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing the electrical systems that power our spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent the avionics system in vehicle-level cross-disciplinary trades and issue resolution
  • Define avionics requirements to support systems including propulsion, life support, thermal, and payload systems
  • Lead avionics architecture definition through internal trade studies and concept of operations definition
  • Design electrical harness schematics for flight and test applications
  • Write and execute electrical test plans and test procedures for the flight vehicle
  • Lead ground test operations during the electrical integration and test campaign
  • Review test data and lead anomaly investigation and resolution
  • Verify avionics system test coverage on flight or flight-representative hardware
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design or system design, integration, and test of complex, technically capable systems
  • Experience leading electrical integration and test operations on rockets, satellites, planetary exploration spacecraft, ships, or aircraft
  • Experience designing and building autonomous fault-tolerant robotic systems
  • Ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data
  • Competence with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies)
  • Knowledge of and experience with analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
