Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Systems Specialist to join our team at Tippecanoe School Corporation. As a key member of our Technology Department, you will be responsible for managing student activities related to student information for our growing K-12 school corporation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the school corporation's student information system (PowerSchool) and manage data integration activities involved with its use.
  • Support corporation personnel and external patrons in their use of the student information system.
  • Provide training to school personnel on the use of the student information system.
  • Facilitate school course scheduling activities, report cards, and transcripts.
  • Support the school corporation's fee program and its integration with the student information system.
  • Collaborate with other Technology Department staff to assess security and data integrity of the student information system.
  • Administer reporting to state and federal authorities as mandated by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Lead the school corporation's integration and interaction with various Indiana Department of Education systems.
  • Support the use of the Ed-Fi data standard to integrate data between disparate systems.
  • Monitor data gathering techniques to improve processes regarding state/federal reports.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with administrators for the purposes of reporting data.
  • Extract data upon request for reports and other data analysis.
  • Assist with student and staff account creation and access provisioning.
  • Represent the school corporation in professional organizations.

  • Background in K-12 educational technology, with an emphasis on information systems and state and federal reporting.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to utilize spreadsheet functions such as filtering, sorting, and formulas.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate various technological equipment. Use of arms and hands for finger dexterity for operating such equipment. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. such as printers, computers, and monitors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to withstand long term use of Video Display Terminals is required. The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people.
