Position Overview

The Air Force Research Laboratory is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to fill the role of a Special Access Program Security Officer. This position is crucial for ensuring the security and integrity of sensitive operations within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Government Special Access Program Security Officer and Alternate Special Security Representative, delivering essential support for the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate.
  • Oversee the daily security management and operations of Special Access Program Facilities (SAPF) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), including various security programs such as Personnel, Information, Industrial, and Physical Security.
  • Collaborate closely with the Information System Security Manager/Officer to create and implement IT-related security processes and protocols.
  • Engage with program managers, scientists, and engineers to share security knowledge and ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored to the specific needs of SAPF/SCIF management.
  • Consult with leadership to establish priorities and objectives, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission.
  • Interpret security guidelines and policies to maintain compliance, participate in inspections, and manage waiver requests as necessary.
  • Communicate complex information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Identify and request necessary resources to support mission objectives.
  • Travel occasionally to attend meetings, training sessions, or conferences as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive (TS/SCI) security clearance and Special Access.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level or equivalent.
  • Must achieve required Department of Defense Security Professional Education and Development certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the Air Force Research Laboratory Science and Technology community.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Experience with Special Access Programs, Counterintelligence, and the Intelligence Community.
  • Leadership experience in a multi-level security environment.

Telework and Remote Work

This position is eligible for telework opportunities as determined by agency policy; however, it is not approved for remote work outside the continental United States.
