Position Overview

The Air Force STEM is seeking a dedicated and skilled Security Specialist to fulfill the role of Government SAP Security Officer / Site Security Representative within the Security Operations and Information Protection Branch. This position is essential for ensuring the security and integrity of our Special Access Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a Government Special Access Program (SAP) Security Officer (GSSO) and Alternate Special Security Representative (SSR), providing vital support for the organization.
  • Oversee the daily security management and operations of Special Access Program Facilities (SAPF) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), encompassing Personnel, Information, Industrial, and Physical Security programs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Information System Security Manager/Information System Security Officer (ISSM/ISSO) to establish and execute IT-related security processes and protocols.
  • Engage with program managers, scientists, and engineers to impart security knowledge and ensure effective program management, identifying and addressing potential security challenges.
  • Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored for SAPF/SCIF management, addressing complex security issues that impact various organizational missions.
  • Consult with leadership to establish priorities and objectives, ensuring alignment with the overall mission.
  • Interpret security policies and guidance to maintain compliance, participate in inspections, and submit waiver requests as necessary.
  • Communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Identify and procure resources essential for mission support.
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training, or conferences.
Position Details:
This role is classified at the DO-2 (GS-12/13 equivalent) level. Candidates with relevant experience at the DO-1 (GS-11 equivalent) level may also be considered.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive (TS/SCI) security clearance and Special Access.
  • This position requires pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade or equivalent.
  • Must obtain and maintain required Department of Defense Security Professional Education and Development certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within the Air Force Research Laboratory Science and Technology community.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Experience with Special Access Programs, Counterintelligence, and the Intelligence Community.
  • Proven experience leading security initiatives in a multi-level security environment.
