Job Overview

We are in search of a dedicated Medication Order Entry Technician to contribute to our operations. This role involves the precise input of prescription orders into our pharmacy management system, collaborating with pharmacists to ensure optimal patient care alongside healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous nature and a solid grasp of various medications and their dosages. Availability to work one Saturday per month from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Input new prescriptions and refill requests accurately into the pharmacy software.
  • Confirm patient details, including name, date of birth, and insurance information.
  • Review entries for precision and completeness prior to finalizing orders.
  • Recognize potential drug interactions, contraindications, or allergies for pharmacist assessment.
  • Ensure accurate selection of medications, dosages, and quantities.
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists to clarify prescription details and address any inconsistencies.
  • Assist in maintaining precise inventory records by selecting the appropriate medications from the inventory.
  • Notify the inventory manager or pharmacist of any shortages or discrepancies.
  • Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding patient confidentiality and data security (HIPAA).
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by professionally addressing inquiries from nursing staff.
  • Assist in resolving prescription order issues as necessary.
  • Provide updates to healthcare providers regarding prescription statuses as needed.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
  • Support phone operations and manage calls as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a pharmacy setting is essential.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician License in the State of Mississippi is required.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, medications, and dosage forms.
