Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pre-Analytical Technician to join our Anatomic Pathology department at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for receiving and processing specimens, ensuring their integrity and quality, and preparing them for laboratory testing.

This is a full-time opportunity with a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. You will be based at our Hyde Park campus and will work closely with our clinical laboratory team to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-analytical specimen preparation, including centrifugation, aliquotting, and set-ups, to ensure specimen integrity and quality.
  • Assess specimen integrity and requisition requirements, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform microbiology set-ups and other advanced pre-analytical specimen processing services as needed.
  • Answer inquiries regarding specimen handling, test results, and specimen collection.
  • Document and perform all required maintenance procedures, continuing education, and quality improvement monitors.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in lab processing and specimen processing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Appropriate training and experience in clinical laboratory science.
  • Knowledge and ability to safely use laboratory and hospital information systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and interact effectively with colleagues and healthcare workers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLT (ASCP) certification or eligibility.
  • Associates degree.
