Job Summary:

The Patient Services Specialist Supervisor is an expert in maintaining a positive patient experience by consistently exceeding expectations in customer service and patient care. This role coordinates clerical and medical activities of a healthcare team, patient registration activities, and facilitates access to UTMB services for new and returning patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the manager with day-to-day operations of the clinic(s).
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate Patient Services Specialist personnel.
  • Provide feedback to the manager regarding Patient Services Specialist personnel.

Customer Service:

  • Provide high-level customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Provide direct, professional, and knowledgeable interactions with patients, physicians, referral sources, and the treatment team.

Scheduling:

  • Apply the policies of the clinical entity to schedule appointments.
  • Coordinate financial counseling for day surgery.
  • Complete reminder calls to patients for scheduled appointments.
  • Educate patient/responsible parties regarding the billing process and any additional financial responsibilities, including third-party benefits information.

Arrival and Registration:

  • Arrive patients and prepare paperwork/chart for visit.
  • Appropriately receipt all monies collected, tokens distributed, and deferments authorized.
  • Verify, ensure eligibility, and pre-register patients by obtaining patient demographics and third-party coverage(s) at every encounter.
