Job Title: Oncology Nurse Clinician

UTMB Health is seeking a skilled Oncology Nurse Clinician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care to adult cancer patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and infusion centers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, psychosocial evaluations, and medication history.
  • Provide consultation and coordination throughout the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Communicate with patients to schedule procedures, provide preparation instructions, and follow up with referring physicians on procedure status.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
  • Administer all medications/blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other complex IV medications, adhering to strict safety protocols and sterile techniques.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Educate patients and their families on the management of the disease process and the actions and side effects of medication or treatment.
  • Assist patients in finding support through available community resources.
  • Provide direction and support to vocational nurses and medical assistants.
  • May triage patient calls and document relevant information in the patient's medical chart.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
Requirements:
  • Active RN license or valid temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Texas, permanent license must be obtained within 90 days.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Working Environment:

The Oncology Nurse Clinician will work in a clinical environment and may be exposed to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients or others.
