Job Summary

The Oncology Nurse Clinician delivers high-quality patient care to adult cancer patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and infusion centers. This role requires the ability to use the nursing process to competently perform patient assessments, formulate nursing diagnoses, and establish goals, plans, and interventions. The successful candidate will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, psychosocial evaluations, and medication history.
  • Provide consultation and coordination throughout the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
  • Administer all medications/blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other complex IV medications, adhering to strict safety protocols and sterile techniques.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Educate patients and their families on the management of the disease process and the actions and side effects of medication or treatment.
  • Assist patients in finding support through available community resources.
  • Provide direction and support to vocational nurses and medical assistants.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times.

Requirements

  • Active RN license or valid temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Texas, permanent license must be obtained within 90 days.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
