KPBS is dedicated to serving the broader San Diego community through informative, cultural, entertaining, and educational programming across television, radio, and digital platforms. As the public broadcasting entity for San Diego, KPBS is committed to advancing the educational and community service mission of its affiliated university by enlightening and empowering its audience. This is achieved not only through the presentation of valuable national and locally produced content but also by creating programming that showcases San Diego and its residents for distribution nationwide.

The Corporate Development Department at KPBS plays a vital role in securing financial support from corporations, foundations, individual businesses, and government entities. This support is acknowledged through advertisements, underwriting, sponsorships, or credits in our diverse local, regional, and national programming. Additionally, the department is tasked with generating revenue through website support and various KPBS events. The team comprises one Manager, currently six account executives, three support staff, and one student assistant.

Key Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work performed by individuals in this role and are not exhaustive. The omission of a specific task does not preclude it from being part of the position if it is similar or related.

Sales Focus (75%)
Secure financial commitments for radio and television programs, digital platforms, and various KPBS events through underwriting and sponsorship from the business community, individuals, foundations, and agencies.Act as a community liaison; foster and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective supporters.Develop and manage all revenue-generating accounts; engage in prospecting, initiating sales calls, conducting presentations, and closing agreements.Provide internal accounting and reporting to service and maintain accounts effectively.Collaborate with clients to create underwriting credits and/or digital advertisements.Participate in KPBS activities related to Corporate Development.

Administrative Duties (15%)
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals by platform.Ensure timely collection of payments due to KPBS from accounts.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • A minimum of four years of relevant, full-time professional experience in sales, advertising sales, fundraising, or marketing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of experience in media sales.
  • Experience in TV, radio, and digital sales.
  • Familiarity with Nielsen, Arbitron, and Scarborough.
  • Understanding of public broadcasting principles.
