Job Summary

The Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join our team as an Assistant Attorney General III in the Consumer Protection Division. This is a unique opportunity to work with a talented group of professionals who are dedicated to protecting Texas consumers and the legitimate business community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients and management on factual and legal issues.
  • Participate in administrative and evidentiary hearings and in the discovery process.
  • Perform legal research and investigations; report findings and conclusions.
  • Represent the Office of the Attorney General in civil matters before state or federal courts.
  • Prepare legal documents for trial.
  • Analyze complex factual and legal issues.
  • Advises management on factual and legal issues.
  • Assists in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration.
  • Provides technical guidance to less tenured staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to Consumer Protection.
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.
  • Testifies at hearings, trials, and legislative meetings.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D.
  • Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas.
  • Two years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation.
  • Skills in handling multiple tasks, effective communication, legal research, and analysis.
  • Ability to prepare legal documents, conduct research, and present cases at trial.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and consumer protection statutes.
  • Skills in complex litigation and significant motion practice.
  • Certifications such as CIPP-US, CIPM, or similar.
