Position Overview
This role as a Senior Assistant Attorney General is situated within the Environmental Protection Division (EPD). The EPD engages in a vibrant practice that represents various State agencies responsible for managing Texas's energy and natural resources. The focus areas encompass environmental issues, oil and gas sectors, Texas lands, parks, and utility regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal advice and support.
- Advocate for the State's interests in both civil and criminal proceedings.
- Draft legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and memoranda.
- Conduct thorough legal research and investigations, presenting findings and conclusions.
- Participate in administrative and evidentiary hearings, as well as the discovery process.
- Represent the Office of the Attorney General in state and federal district and appellate courts.
- Analyze complex factual and legal issues, gathering evidence through witness interviews and depositions.
- Prepare cases for trial and perform related duties as assigned.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge essential for fulfilling job functions.
- Adhere to a regular work schedule and ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, particularly those concerning ethics and integrity.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Membership: Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney in litigation or environmental law.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Four years of full-time experience in litigation or environmental law.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with laws and legal principles relevant to the Environmental Protection Division.
- Leadership: Ability to supervise the work of others.
