Work Environment:


The Augusta mill is strategically located along the Savannah River, straddling the Georgia and South Carolina border, specializing in the production of light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard. This facility is a well-capitalized SBS paperboard manufacturing site with an impressive capacity of approximately 600 thousand tons. With a workforce of over 700 employees, the mill has been operational for nearly 65 years, utilizing two paper machines that collectively produce 1,940 tons per day.

As Clearwater Paper's largest paperboard facility, the Augusta Mill plays a pivotal role in the success of our strategic initiatives and future growth.


Augusta, Georgia, is a dynamic community situated about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia, offering a rich array of experiences for all. The area is home to historical landmarks, recreational pursuits, vibrant music scenes, family-oriented festivals, and other memorable activities that foster a sense of community. Downtown Augusta features many of the city's most cherished attractions, locally owned eateries, and nightlife options.

From March through November, the Augusta Market showcases local and regional artisans at the Riverwalk's 8th Street entrance. The Masters Tournament has elevated Augusta's profile on a global scale, reinforcing its reputation for tradition, hospitality, and cultural heritage.

Students from across the nation are drawn to Augusta, thanks to its educational institutions, including Augusta University, Georgia Military College, Paine College, and the University of South Carolina Aiken, along with various technical and educational facilities in the River Region.

The warm climate year-round allows for numerous outdoor activities and leisure opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
The Reliability Engineer will be tasked with the following duties:

1. Ensure timely completion of Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) and subsequent corrective actions.

2. Monitor equipment downtime data to pinpoint improvement opportunities in collaboration with area stakeholders.

3. Lead the RCFA process, identifying and executing actionable measures to prevent recurrence.

4. Analyze downtime incidents and spearhead reliability enhancement initiatives for significant and/or chronic failures.

5. Assist in the development and application of key reliability metrics for ongoing performance reviews.

6. Maintain a reliability improvement strategy for departmental machinery.

7. Ensure that critical reliability enhancement projects and repair job plans adhere to budget constraints.

8. Integrate reliability improvements into routine and major maintenance work scopes.

9. Oversee mill lubrication strategies.

10. Assume mill-wide responsibility for critical reliability systems (e.g., lubrication, vibration, pumps, gearboxes, etc.).

11. Provide technical guidance to area reliability inspectors and lubrication technicians.

12. Enhance the use of predictive technologies to minimize unscheduled downtime.

13. Offer technical support to supervisors and craftsmen as necessary.

14. Support planning work systems and master data enhancement efforts, including PM development and inventory adjustment recommendations.

15. Assist with Capital and Repair Projects in the following areas:

- Engineering liaison: Develop and transition capital work to mill engineering.

- Design for reliability: Ensure all capital and repair projects achieve optimal functionality.

- Facility planning: Contribute to the development of a 5-year repair plan and provide insights for capital planning.

Essential Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferred) or equivalent practical/technical experience.

2. A minimum of 5 years of reliability experience in an industrial maintenance setting, preferably in the paper industry or power & recovery.

3. Comprehensive understanding of reliability principles and their application.

4. Proven leadership capabilities.

5. Demonstrated ability to drive and sustain change.

6. Capacity to engage and motivate a workforce.

7. Strong interpersonal skills.

8. Proactive problem-solving skills.

9. Physical ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, and movement throughout the facility for extended periods.

10. Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.

11. Proficient in using various office tools, hand tools, and electrical equipment.

12. Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment requirements in a mill environment.

13. Exposure to airborne particles and fluctuating heat and humidity levels.

14. Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment with sustained exposure to high-frequency noise.

15. Availability for on-call duties during select weekends.

Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary offered will consider internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience, among other factors.

Benefits typically become available after 30 days and include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage, along with an employee assistance program and a 401k plan.
