Job Summary

CTTRANSIT is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner/GIS Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing public transit systems to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compile and analyze ridership and on-time performance data to inform planning decisions
  • Investigate service requests and opportunities for improvement, including cost estimation and fleet and labor projections
  • Assess the impact of major traffic generators and roadway improvement projects on current and future transit operations
  • Assist with service analysis and design, including comprehensive operational analysis, individual route analysis, and new service development
  • Assist in the construction of transit service schedules and bus operator work schedules, including run cutting using automated and manual methods
  • Assist with the management of ITS products, including automated headsign control and internal/external announcements
  • Assist in the development of various technical reports, including monthly miles and hours, National Transit Database, Title VI compliance, service equity analysis, etc.
  • Assist with all aspects of bus stop management and maintenance
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems in bus service analysis, design, and reporting
  • Maintain professional contact with representatives of cities and towns where CTTRANSIT provides bus service and with representatives of neighboring bus and rail systems
  • Assist in the development of customer information products, including public timetables and service change notifications
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel
  • Attend in-service training, seminars, or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency
  • Provide training for Agency personnel as required
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Have thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban Studies, Regional Planning, Geography, Public Policy, Political Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of transportation experience with emphasis on route planning, scheduling, or transit operations
  • Excellent mathematical skills and the ability to work with a large volume of numbers accurately
  • Prior experience with Trapeze software products (FX, BlockBuster, TransitMaster, Ops) or other transit planning, scheduling, and operations software packages
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of the local CTTRANSIT Hartford, New Haven, or Stamford service area and Connecticut's statewide transportation network
  • Familiarity with ITS applications and other public transit technologies, including AVL and APCs
  • Familiarity with analysis tools such as Microsoft Power BI and Excel pivot tables
  • Valid drivers' license and the ability to be insured by our insurance company throughout employment
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft 365 software suite, internet applications, and utilization of all relevant office equipment
  • Ability to quickly learn industry-specific software
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Good work record
