ROLE SUMMARY

As the Principal Engineer at Extend, you will lead essential engineering projects as the foremost backend engineer within the organization. Reporting directly to the CTO, your influence will be pivotal in architecting, developing, and scaling our backend infrastructure to align with Extend's ambitious growth trajectory and vision. Your leadership will significantly impact the integration of innovative features and the expansion of our collaborations with some of the largest banks and credit card networks globally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and Develop: Create cutting-edge services that are scalable, adaptable, and capable of supporting our evolving business needs.
  • Innovate: Lead the creation of an intelligence layer that delivers advanced insights and AI-driven functionalities to enhance user engagement and leverage the power of payment data.
  • Facilitate Integrated Payments: Oversee and enhance our partnerships with major financial institutions to improve and innovate data flows and functionalities.
  • Establish Excellence Standards: Collaborate with the technology leadership team to set and uphold high standards for engineering practices at Extend.
  • Mentor and Guide: Provide mentorship to fellow engineers on best practices in software architecture, design patterns, and advanced coding methodologies.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Remain informed about technology advancements, advocating for and implementing modern engineering practices that keep Extend competitive in the fintech landscape.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

We seek a candidate who not only meets but exceeds the following qualifications:

  • Proven Experience: Over 10 years of experience in leading the design, development, and operational support of complex distributed systems.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive knowledge in developing high-scale web applications; expertise in software development with a strong understanding of object-oriented design, multithreading, memory management, and contemporary backend technologies.
  • Cloud Expertise: Significant experience with AWS services, including but not limited to EC2, ECS, RDS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
  • Lifecycle Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle with a solid track record in agile methodologies.

The anticipated salary for this position ranges from $200,000 to $225,000, with final compensation determined by factors such as location, experience, skills, and education. Eligibility for participation in the annual bonus plan may also be available, based on individual and organizational performance.
