Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at California University of Science and Medicine. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility Maintenance: Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks for the maintenance and repair of facilities, systems, and equipment; assist skilled trades' personnel in the performance of a variety of more technical jobs related to building trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Event Support: Assist and respond to requests, coordinate resources, and implement the setup and take down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of campus and community events.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain assigned equipment, furniture, and tools.
  • Security Support: Support security in the locking and unlocking of doors/rooms as required.
  • Urgent Maintenance: Respond to all urgent maintenance calls in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency.
  • Hazard Reporting: Report all maintenance, safety, and sanitary hazards as appropriate; adhere to safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations using best practices.
  • Project Completion: Complete assigned projects to accepted standards, on time, within budget, using tools and materials provided.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in facility maintenance.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to facilities management; ability to use, distinguish, and know the use of all maintenance tools; demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a collaborative team; ability to handle several projects with short deadlines; plan and establish time frames for completion of projects; strong ability to maintain positive relationships with students, staff, faculty, and outside vendors; must be able to take direction and follow through with assigned tasks; excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English; must be flexible and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays, in support of business operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in HVAC, electrical, general carpentry, plumbing, painting, or other trades.
  • Work Experience: Previous work experience in an educational institution.
  • Familiarity with FERPA: Familiarity with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99).
