As a member of our Camera Technologies team, you will contribute to the design of cutting-edge technology that empowers each generation of Apple products to capture even more stunning photographs. Your role will involve conceptualizing and developing pioneering ideas for all aspects of our camera systems, from sensors to lenses.

In collaboration with various teams across Apple, you will engage in research, design, development, testing, and validation of camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we will create a remarkable photography experience that transforms customer expectations. The Camera Hardware Engineering team is dedicated to the design, development, and innovation of camera hardware for all Apple products, aiming to deliver top-tier camera hardware that ensures an unparalleled user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across functions to create hardware/system architectures for innovative camera systems.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of camera subsystems with demanding component and system specifications.
  • Oversee module-level architecture and specifications throughout the implementation phase, including component selection, design, layout supervision, simulation, validation, and system integration.
  • Guide cross-functional teams to address critical signal and power integrity, de-sense, and co-existence challenges.
  • Produce clear and detailed electrical test documentation for manufacturing partners.
  • Work with testing teams to devise new testing equipment and procedures for camera module validation and production testing.
  • Develop electronic prototypes for new camera features and product concepts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in system-level design and architecture.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge of electrical engineering, computer engineering, and physics principles.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within dynamic, multi-functional teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a focus on leadership, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Experience in prototyping new technologies, conducting design experiments, and analyzing data.
  • Hands-on experience in electronic design, including component selection and schematic design using tools like Cadence Allegro and OrCAD.
  • Strong understanding of layout strategies for rigid PCBs, flex, and rigid-flex designs.
  • Good grasp of material selection, stack-up planning, and noise suppression techniques.
  • Proven expertise in electrical engineering design and layout for low-noise linear and switching power supply circuits.
  • Extensive experience with electrical engineering design for digital circuits, high-speed digital design (MIPI, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIe, etc.), and low-speed serial control interfaces.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing, testing, and reliability (DFM, DFT, DFR).
  • Broad understanding of engineering concepts (device behavior, data analysis, and systems modeling) and practical lab experience with hardware bring-up and debugging.
  • Integration of hardware into multi-functional systems (de-sense and co-existence).
  • Familiarity with the challenges of transitioning a product from design to production.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be necessary, though it is not a critical aspect of this position.
  • Experience with camera technology encompassing sensing, control, and signal processing.
  • Familiarity with system designs involving application processors and/or FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller and instrument programming.
  • Experience with image quality evaluation methodologies and general optical metrology.
  • Proficiency in command line interfaces and scripting (e.g., Matlab, Python) is advantageous.
  • Statistical data analysis and visualization skills (e.g., JMP) are a plus.
  • Experience in high-volume consumer electronics systems is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

At Apple, base pay is one component of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a range that allows for growth and development within the role. The base pay range for this position is between $166,600 and $296,300, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, discounts on products and services, and reimbursement for certain educational expenses related to career advancement at Apple. This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, as well as relocation assistance.
