Position Overview:
The Student Wellness Advocate at Albemarle County Public Schools and Government is instrumental in enhancing student mental health and educational achievement. This role involves collaborating with students, families, and educational personnel to deliver mental health services, guidance, and crisis management, ensuring a secure and nurturing atmosphere. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in counseling, therapy, and intervention strategies, with an emphasis on personalized support tailored to the unique needs of each student.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Employ effective therapeutic techniques to address individual student requirements
  • Work in partnership with community organizations and mental health professionals for student assistance
  • Offer mental health guidance to educational staff and family members
  • Lead training sessions on threat assessment for school personnel
  • Participate in critical incident management and provide grief support
  • Develop and implement suicide prevention initiatives and crisis response plans
  • Evaluate student progress and create customized behavioral support programs
  • Assist in connecting students with school and community resources
  • Conduct reintegration training for students returning to school
  • Maintain thorough documentation and communication with families and educational staff
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Master's Degree in a relevant discipline and possess appropriate certification in counseling or social work. Experience working with children in educational or therapeutic environments is preferred. Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities are crucial, along with the capacity to collaborate effectively with a diverse array of stakeholders.

Work Environment:
This position requires engagement in various settings, interacting with staff, students, and the community, and may involve physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds. Candidates should be proficient in using office technology and effectively communicating both verbally and in writing.
