Position Overview

Under the general guidance of the designated supervisor or manager, the Academic Support Specialist collaborates with faculty to enhance student learning experiences through individualized and group assistance aimed at improving academic knowledge and technical competencies.

Key Responsibilities

Support instructors within the Health Occupations programs by organizing the computer lab, skills lab, and practice stations with necessary supplies, equipment, and configurations prior to each session; set up audio/visual equipment and install required software as necessary; coordinate practice sessions with appropriate check-off for students; oversee student demonstrations, providing constructive feedback and remediation as needed. Notify the relevant instructor of any issues encountered with assigned students; track student attendance; engage with the instructional team leader regarding student progress; assist students with lab cleanup and the organization of equipment and supplies; maintain accurate records and files of instructional materials and equipment; supervise the activities of temporary staff; and perform related duties as required.

Required Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of successful experience in a healthcare environment.
EDUCATION: Completion of an Associate's Degree in a health-related discipline from an accredited institution or 60 semester units.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equivalent to 12 months of full-time work at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for the purpose of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: One year of education is equivalent to 30 semester units.)

All education must be from an accredited institution.
