Position Overview

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics operates the largest laboratory in New Hampshire, delivering comprehensive Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to a wide range of healthcare providers. We are currently seeking a Histology Supervisor to oversee our dynamic team. This role involves collaborating with over 45 Pathologists and managing a staff of more than 30 employees. The Histology Supervisor will be accountable for the strategic direction, operational management, and performance of the Histology section within the Department of Laboratories. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and supervising the section's activities and personnel. The section boasts a modernized workspace with state-of-the-art equipment and ample natural light, processing over 85,000 surgical specimens annually, including whole slide imaging for digital pathology.

This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week during daytime hours.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee all personnel and activities within the section, ensuring effective and efficient processing and reporting of workloads, adjusting staffing as necessary, and evaluating staff performance while promoting skill enhancement.
  2. Document, implement, and uphold standard laboratory procedures, ensuring high-quality test results through rigorous quality assurance practices and maintaining safety and security protocols.
  3. Lead the educational initiatives within the section, including training for Medical Technologist students, residents, and other staff.
  4. Manage technological advancements, equipment maintenance, and the development of new testing procedures in specialized areas.
  5. Ensure adherence to departmental managerial policies and objectives within the section.
  6. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget for equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  7. Engage in planning activities for the section and contribute to the Laboratory Department's strategic planning.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered Medical Technologist with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory agencies impacting laboratory operations is required.
  • Experience with CPT & ICD-9 coding and knowledge of Medicare reimbursement is desirable.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Registered Medical Technologist with 5 years of laboratory experience, including 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
