Monday - Friday 9am - 5:30pm with 1:6 rotating Saturdays at the AHC Cedar Creek lab, no holidays no Sundays.
Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and quality care through effective specimen collection and processing. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards in laboratory practices and patient interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate patient identification to uphold safety protocols and assess reactions during specimen collection.
- Perform venipuncture and collect various specimens from patients of all ages, adhering to established procedures.
- Manage specimen collection based on priority and scheduled times, ensuring proper labeling and suitability for testing.
- Conduct limited testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines.
- Handle incoming calls, assist with inventory management, and support billing and administrative functions.
- Receive and sort specimens from diverse customers, ensuring proper packaging and tracking for transport.
- Order and verify test requests, documenting necessary information for quality assurance.
- Input laboratory results into the computer system accurately.
- Participate in proficiency testing and review management reports, generating necessary documentation.
- Provide training to new employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Demonstrate the ability to assess and respond to the specific needs of patients across different age groups.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: None required.
- Education: High School Graduate.
- Experience: No prior experience necessary.
- Skills: Knowledge of phlebotomy practices, basic computer skills, excellent communication abilities, and strong customer service orientation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate necessary equipment and lift weights up to 50 lbs.
- Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, and bending throughout the workday.
- Exposure to biological materials and the need for appropriate protective gear.
- Ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism.
