Dartmouth Health is seeking a skilled Genetic Counselor - Medical Oncology Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide expert genetic counseling to individuals and families, coordinate screening and diagnostic testing, and provide follow-up care.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate genetic consultations for individuals and families, providing triage for referrals, incoming calls, and inpatient consults.
- Obtain and evaluate individual, pregnancy, medical, and family histories to determine genetic risk for genetic or medical conditions.
- Discuss the features, natural history, means of diagnosis, genetic and environmental factors, and management for genetic or medical conditions with patients and families.
- Identify and coordinate genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies for the genetic assessment.
- Explain the clinical implications of the results of genetic laboratory tests or other diagnostic testing.
- Integrate genetic laboratory results and other diagnostic studies with the personal and family histories to assess and communicate risk factors for genetic or medical conditions.
- Evaluate a patient's or family's response to the genetic information reviewed and provide counseling.
- Provide written documentation of phone calls and office notes in the electronic medical record and for families.
- Participate in the teaching of residents, medical students, and other students, as well as the supervision of genetic counseling students.
- Assist with data entry and maintenance of the department database.
- Participate in ongoing research activities of the program and the development of department protocols.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or the equivalent in education and experience required.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Board certification/eligibility in Genetic Counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and Medical Genetics required.
- Licensed Genetic Counselor in the state of New Hampshire.
