Job Overview

This position is based at SMC's US Headquarters.

OBJECTIVE

The Quality Engineer is responsible for identifying issues, conducting thorough research, evaluating criteria, discovering and assessing solutions, and making informed decisions. A significant portion of the engineer's time is dedicated to researching, sourcing, applying, and disseminating information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Innovate and enhance assigned tasks and existing processes or products.
  • Ensure reliability and availability to fulfill tasks as dictated by internal and external customer needs.
  • Communicate effectively within the department and with stakeholders associated with assigned tasks (both verbally and in writing).
  • Occasional travel for training, customer support, or industry events.
  • Follow verbal and/or written instructions regarding tasks, training, or company policies.
  • Deliver verbal and/or written summaries of tasks or requests to relevant parties during task execution.
  • Produce final outputs of assigned tasks in the form of components, assemblies, drawings, data files, proposals, or reports.
  • Utilize project management skills to effectively plan and coordinate projects.
  • Organize, train, and lead problem-solving teams using statistical and process improvement methodologies.
  • Contribute quality planning insights to new product introductions and special project teams.
  • Create quality system documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and records.
  • Manage supplier quality assurance, including supplier improvement initiatives, selection, assessments, and follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Oversee the implementation of inspection and testing procedures on the production floor, including training.
  • Monitor adherence to Quality System requirements through internal audits and corrective action follow-ups as necessary.
  • Assist in resolving issues related to non-conforming materials.
  • Develop and apply statistical process control methods for engineering, production, and warehouse processes where applicable.
  • Coordinate the resolution of customer product complaints.
  • Support the ISO 9001-based Quality System.
  • Establish and implement cost of quality metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage customer complaints and requirements, including supporting customer quality initiatives and visiting customer facilities to address issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Occasional physical demands such as moving or rearranging files and products.
  • Fast-paced office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent education and experience as determined by management.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Design & Manufacturing disciplines).
  • Basic understanding of common manufacturing processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a professional and tactful manner.
