The Mechanical Service Manager is responsible for directing daily service operations and distributing work orders to Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Technicians. This role includes overseeing the quality of work performed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and meeting customer expectations in a timely and efficient manner. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential, as teamwork is crucial for our success. This position involves communication with both local and national account clients in the transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, create, and assign service work orders to qualified technicians.
- Drive the growth and productivity of technicians, ensuring they meet or exceed revenue targets.
- Assist management in maintaining accurate employee records, including certifications and evaluations.
- Coordinate with the parts department to manage inventory levels effectively.
- Support the hiring and training processes for mobile mechanics and administrative staff.
- Oversee departmental financials, including payroll and operational expenses.
- Monitor the quality of service work completed.
- Ensure operational practices align with company standards.
- Verify accuracy of work orders prior to closure.
- Generate work orders for products exiting the parts room.
- Provide support to sales staff through service quotes and customer inquiries.
- Communicate completed repairs to customers clearly and effectively.
- Manage scheduled fleet work and customer-specific needs.
- Ensure service trucks are maintained according to company schedules.
- Submit service department invoices for approval and payment.
- Assist in managing inventory in accordance with company policies.
- Participate in warehouse duties, including inventory management and billing processes.
- Conduct daily safety and compliance checks of service areas and equipment.
- Ensure proper branch opening and closing procedures are adhered to.
- Guarantee the branch is adequately staffed and equipped.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and demonstrate a safety-first mindset.
- Exhibit excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with all company policies and values.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Associate's Degree in Business or related fields; a four-year degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the industry or a related management role.
- Familiarity with software such as Paylocity and AS400 is advantageous.
- A clean driving record is essential.
- Valid Class C Driver's License or equivalent, with insurability under company standards.
- Preferred: Federal Annual and Brake Inspector certification.
- Commercial TIA certification required within six months of employment.
- Medium/Heavy Truck ASE certifications or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
- Consistently safety-conscious.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning additional software.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage inventory and generate reports.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Effective communicator with all organizational levels and clients.
- Understanding of customer portfolios and potential growth opportunities.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Analytical thinker with business insight.
- Adaptable to changing conditions and capable of sound decision-making.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and fleet operations.
- Familiarity with diesel and gasoline-powered heavy trucks.
- Understanding of OEM and aftermarket parts within the industry.
