Job Title: Academic Advisor

Join the University of Maryland as an Academic Advisor in the Department of Kinesiology. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in guiding prospective and current Kinesiology majors through their degree requirements. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will ensure student success and degree progress.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead orientation efforts for the Department and facilitate all change of major workshops.
  • Collaborate with the School of Public Health Advising team and work independently to achieve goals.
  • Provide academic guidance and support to students, ensuring they meet degree requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Public Health, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to create and maintain databases.
  • Fluent in utilizing social media for educational and non-profit organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Kinesiology or related field, or advising experience.
  • Two to three years of advising experience, with a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in accordance with FERPA.
