The Association of Village Council Presidents is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Compact Services Support Specialist. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) for tribal children placed outside their homes.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be responsible for managing various initiatives related to kinship care, as well as the recruitment and retention of foster parents within the AVCP region. This role is vital in providing services that help maintain connections for children with their relatives and communities, ensuring cultural ties are preserved.
Essential Duties:
1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Child Welfare Systems in Alaska.
2. Assist in managing referrals for licensing support, home safety evaluations, and relative searches.
3. Conduct periodic travel to provide direct support to relative caregivers and foster homes, and to facilitate recruitment efforts.
4. Aid families in completing necessary applications for foster care licensure, including assistance with required documentation.
5. Establish a working knowledge of local and regional agencies that offer resources and services to families and children, including AVCP programs.
6. Connect unlicensed relative placements with financial support, training, and resources to ensure the preferred placement of tribal children.
7. Organize and coordinate recruitment activities for foster care providers across the AVCP region.
8. Provide training for frontline staff and Tribes regarding the services outlined in the Tribal State Compact.
9. Maintain accurate records of compacted services and complete necessary billing documents and reports.
10. Collaborate with various stakeholders to coordinate referrals and services related to compacted scopes of work.
