Position Overview:

The Staff Accountant is accountable for the comprehensive management and administration of all financial transactions, including vendor payments, payroll processing, contractual obligations, and property/casualty insurance oversight. This role is integral to the formulation and execution of the organization’s financial strategies and budgeting processes, ensuring the fiscal health of the agency's programs and initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for various programs and the organization.
  • Provide financial forecasts and cash flow analyses for the Board and Leadership Team.
  • Oversee the organization’s cash flow, bank accounts, and investment portfolios.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Board Finance Committee and external financial partners.
  • Administer payroll functions for the organization.
  • Ensure proper management and oversight of contractual agreements.
  • Facilitate the annual audit process.
  • Oversee all aspects of property and casualty insurance.
  • Collaborate with the CFO/CEO on special project financial assessments as required.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and work with relevant staff to implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain precise and organized financial records.
Accounts Payable Management
  • Process employee expense reimbursements alongside bi-weekly payroll.
  • Ensure timely processing and deposit of received checks and cash.
  • Supervise revenue entries into the accounting system.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve any accounting discrepancies as necessary.
Payroll Administration
  • Review employee time submissions and coordinate with supervisors for accuracy.
  • Execute bi-weekly payroll for all staff, including both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Engage with the payroll service provider regarding any payroll-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Assist in payroll reconciliation and post journal entries to the accounting system.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with Abila MIP Fund accounting software is advantageous.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and evaluative skills, alongside excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across departments.
  • Willingness to continuously enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Professional demeanor and appropriate workplace attire.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to perform tasks involving walking, standing, bending, and moderate lifting (up to 30 pounds).
  • Full range of motion, including manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
  • Capability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional requirement to stand for prolonged durations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work output.
  • Work primarily in a non-smoking office environment, with potential travel exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Occasional high-stress situations may arise while interacting with clients, staff, and volunteers.

Compensation:

$50,000 - $60,000 annually
