Support Services Specialist

The University of Iowa Healthcare, Downtown Campus is seeking a highly skilled Support Services Specialist to provide prescription support services for patients. This role requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement plans of care responsive to patient/family concerns, health care status, available resources, and age-specific problems.
- Conduct daily triaging of program referrals and perform social work financial assessments with patient and/or family involvement.
- Develop benefit assistance plans with patients and/or families that reflect identified problems and incorporate age-related issues.
- Adjust plans specific to age- and diagnosis-related issues and help patients/families identify their financial resources.
- Provide benefit assistance services responsive to identified problems and demonstrate knowledge of entitlement and categorical programs resources for age- and diagnosis-related issues.
- Communicate with resources and company programs regarding patient status and progress and demonstrate respect for all members of the University community.
- Represent the interests of the University and of Care Coordination Division leadership in the use of resources to meet service and productivity demands within unit goals and budgets.
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience (typically 6-12 months) in clinical social work or pharmacy-related experience.
- Must be certified, or qualify to be certified, as a Pharmacy Support Person by the Iowa Pharmacy Board to perform nontechnical pharmacy duties assigned by the pharmacist.
- Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or comparable programs.
- Strong attention to detail and proven ability to gather and analyze data and keep accurate records.
- Self-motivated with initiative to seek out additional responsibilities and tasks along with generating suggestions for improving workflow.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, active listening skills, and the ability to maintain professionalism while handling difficult situations.
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving abilities and meets challenges with resourcefulness.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Care coordination experience or case management skills in a healthcare setting as part of an interdisciplinary team including experience utilizing an electronic medical record to assist with management of non-adherence, post-care follow-up, and referrals to appropriate resources.
- Experience working in a complex hospital system.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- Related experience in Medicaid/TXIX programs, and patient medication assistance.
- Experience with identifying and navigating financial resources, including insurance coverage options, changes related to the federal and state health programs.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is desirable.
