Job Summary:

The Transplant Care Specialist at Loma Linda University Medical Center demonstrates comprehensive care and advanced knowledge related to the specialty practice of adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant process and treatment.

Utilizing discretion and independent judgment, this role prioritizes, coordinates, provides, and documents direct and indirect quality patient-centered care in a dynamic environment.

The Transplant Care Specialist performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and in accordance with LLUMC's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve proficient individualized physical, psychosocial, and spiritual wellness.

This role works in tandem with nursing leadership and Medical Director to achieve/maintain Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) accreditation, maintains databases as per requirements.

The Transplant Care Specialist evaluates pre-transplant referrals, gathers required medical record information, and coordinates initial evaluation meetings. Participates in department quality improvement and Self-Manage work team to optimize patient outcomes.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in nursing is required. A minimum of three years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) is required, preferably in the field of stem cell transplant or oncology.

This role requires comprehensive knowledge related to the adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant. Knowledgeable about state and federal healthcare regulations, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, FACT, and NMDP requirements. Knowledge of adult learning principles, management, and problem-solving methodologies.

Able to speak, read, and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work independently with minimal supervision; problem solve in a proactive and creative manner; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.
