About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC Shop Supervisor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our Building Operations and Maintenance department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our HVAC systems across the Homewood Campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and coordinate the installation and maintenance of HVAC components and systems, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for plumbing systems, air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment, working closely with other maintenance and trades personnel to determine and coordinate repair and modification needs.
  • Apply basic principles and practices of employee supervision, participating in the training and development of employees, and making decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, and promotion and termination of employees.
  • Anticipate and procure supplies and materials needed for daily operations, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Plant Operations to develop and implement unit goals and objectives, and provide technical assistance and training to assigned staff.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards, maintaining a safe work environment for direct reports.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems within HVAC and control systems, determining necessary repairs and using contemporary diagnostic equipment and hand tools to accomplish this.
  • Assist with maintaining campus steam and chilled water metering systems, ensuring accurate and efficient operation.
  • Be proactive in identifying problems early, before they become significant issues requiring greater resources for resolution.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; formal training and/or education above the high school level in the HVAC Field is highly desirable and preferred.
  • At least 10 years' experience in the field of HVAC maintenance and repair, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with the operation of Building Automation and/or Energy Management systems, including both pneumatic and direct digital control systems, is highly desirable.
  • Prior knowledge of CMMS systems and experience supervising in a union environment are preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to work overtime and respond to emergency calls (24/7).
